Why I Paint

"I learned that the real creator was my inner Self, the Shakti...That desire to do something is God inside talking through us." -Michele Shea

I grew up in Burns, Oregon. A small desert like corner of Eastern Oregon. Many of my days were spent roaming the vast sagebrush landscape. Burns is also located near some of the most beautiful ponderosa pine forests in the world. From a very young age I drew or painted. I left Burns to attend Eastern Oregon University. There I majored in Education with Art as a secondary degree. I taught for many years before becoming an Artist-in-Education. I still love to teach children and continue to do that, although my health prohibits me from entering the schools at times.
Myself and three of my painting friends have formed a group called Batik Convergence: Jan Clark, Sue Orlaske, and Denise Elizabeth Stone. Batik Watercolor is a method of painting with watercolors on handmade papers. Beeswax is used to create a resist for the paint. The group has had many group shows in many galleries. We will be hosting a show at the Crossroads Art Gallery in Baker City, Or. The show will be for the month of November, 2012. I will also be the featured artist for this years Season's Faire held at the Gallery at EOU. I have won many awards for my paintings and have had numerous showings in many galleries. I had a showing of my work at the Betty Feves Gallery in Pendleton, Oregon. A group of my en plein air paintings are currently on display at the Mitre's Touch Gallery in La Grande, Oregon. One of my paintings won Best of Show at the 3rd annual Union County Arts and Culture Center in La Grande, OR. "I hope you enjoy visiting my web site and looking at my artworks."

I will be hosting a show of baskets titled A Progression of Exploration at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center in August of 2014. Here are a few examples.
